Build a Stereo Tone Control Using the NE5532

A tone control allows you to adjust the bass and treble frequencies of an audio signal before it reaches the power amplifier. It is commonly found in Hi-Fi amplifiers, mixers, car audio systems and active speakers. This project uses the popular NE5532 dual operational amplifier to provide high-quality stereo audio with low noise and low distortion.

How the Circuit Works

The input audio signal enters the NE5532 through a coupling capacitor.

An active filter network connected around the operational amplifier allows the bass and treble frequencies to be boosted or attenuated by adjusting the potentiometers.

The processed signal then leaves the tone control and is sent to the power amplifier.
