Voice-coil centering is one of the most important operations when repairing or reconing a loudspeaker. The voice coil must remain accurately positioned inside the magnetic gap so that it can move freely without rubbing against the pole piece or top plate. Even a small alignment error can cause distortion, scraping sounds and premature voice-coil failure.

What Is Voice-Coil Centering?

Voice-coil centering is the process of positioning the voice coil accurately within the magnetic gap of a loudspeaker.

The objective is to maintain approximately equal clearance between the voice coil and the surrounding magnetic structures.
